The Newman Institute
Welcome to the Newman Institute
The Newman Institute is a place for exploring the deeper questions of life and the interaction between theology, philosophy and culture. It is a place where students can acquire an excellent education presented from the perspective of the Catholic tradition.
The Catholic tradition of faith, thought and culture has been fundamental to the development of civilization in the West and many other parts of the world. The Newman Institute offers a variety of courses in theology, philosophy and cultural studies from a Catholic perspective, and from a historical as well as a contemporary point of view.
The Newman Institute is named after the great English thinker Blessed John Henry Newman (1801-1890), and is run by the Society of Jesus. The institute is part of a network of other philosophical and theological colleges and universities in Europe and the USA.
The Institute offers a bachelor’s degree programme of 180 credits, as well as the possibility for students to enroll in individual courses (of 7.5 credits each) in a wide range of areas, including theology, philosophy, literature, art, ecclesial architecture, music, and film.
The Institute also publishes the cultural magazine Signum.
