Theology, Philosophy and Cultural Studies
The Newman Institute is a place where students and professors look for answers to the vital questions of life, and explore the interaction between theology, philosophy and culture. It is a place where students can acquire an excellent education in theology and philosophy, presented from the perspective of the Catholic tradition. The Catholic tradition of faith, thought and culture has been fundamental to the development of civilization in the West and many other parts of the world. The Newman Institute offers a variety of courses in theology, philosophy and cultural studies from a Catholic perspective, and from a historical as well as a contemporary point of view. The Newman Institute is named after the great English thinker John Henry Newman (1801–1890), and is run by the Society of Jesus. The institute is part of a network of many theological and philosophical colleges and universities in Europe, in the USA and in other parts of the world. The Institute offers a Bachelor’s Degree program of 180 credits, which combines theology with philosophy and cultural studies. Students can also enroll in individual courses (of 7,5 credits each) in a wide range of areas, including theology, philosophy, literature, art, ecclesial architecture, music, and film.
